This was written for the 2008 movie Twilight,
which was based on Stephenie Meyer's first book of her series of
vampire novels. Paramore's frontwoman Hayley Williams said in a
statement that the title of the song, "is about the building tension,
awkwardness, anger and confusion between (story characters) Bella and
Edward.
Bella's is the only mind Edward can't read and I feel like that's a big part of the first book and one of the obstacles for them to overcome. It's one added tension that makes the story even better."

When Williams heard that the film version of Twilight
was being made, inspired by both the relationship in Stephenie Meyer's
original book and personal experiences, she penned this song's lyrics.
The singer told Rolling Stone that her bandmates initially
thought they were "harsh" until she explained the premise of the novel.
"Then," she said, "I think everyone just really locked on the whole vibe
of the song, and did a great job getting the whole picture of the
book." Williams then took the song directly to Twilight director
Catherine Hardwicke, who not only gave it the thumbs up, but also
commissioned the band to write another song, which became "I Caught
Myself."
